  • eee...k a computer virus - 1st February 2010 sorry!

    computer-virus-bugs-clip-art-thumb3167674

Yep cyberspace got me through my own stupidity, tiredness and clever tactic!....Let me preface this post with an apology and a suggestion that if you have a yahoo account and you get a message from what looks like yahoo support you don't complete the form as suggested.  Can't believe I fell for it, however I did and this is what happened.

     sorry greeting card

Apologies to everyone who received an email from  me over the last day or so, my yahoo account has been compromised and my contacts address book been accessed.  I am not in London and I do not need money and if you knew me this would never be what I would do!!  Thanks to those who alerted me to this scam either through my work email address and or phone call.  Last count 30 phone calls and >10 emails, but thanks and once agin an apology.  If there is a positive it means that I will need to close this yahoo account and I was in the process of cleaning it up and the the thousands of emails from my subscriptions and networks that I have put aside to read at a later date.  So RSS is my ne challenge and an e-portfolio and or personal webpage where I can keep this information.  I will go bak to my i- google and try and renovate it for better use of emails and subscriptions.

The other agony is that I have to get my machine checked and consider how many of my networks were set up with my yahoo account.  It will be interesting to see what has occurred on the laptop!

    computer-virus1

Interestingly I never used the yahoo mail password for any other sign in process, so this might help.  The next week will tell! So timely warning re computer security, I will be setting up a new gmail email account, but if you need to get in contact with me over the next week or so try my work email colleen.hodgins@deta.qld.gov.au

Once again sorry for the inconvenience.

  • TNQ Diploma of e-learning graduation link and finalisation

    JumpingBullEPA_450x300

Hi everyone, just to let you know that the Diploma of e-learning website on Janison has now been decommissioned so it is not possible for anyone to access this site in 2010.  I had arranged that the site would be downloaded and so if anyone is interested in obtaining a copy of the site, an email would be best, then I will do my best to get a copy to you over the coming month. Plus couldn't not add this image reminding you of Carmel's metaphor re her e-learning journey!!

I am also interested to hear from anyone, Jodie and Matt I have your correspondence, if you have not received your award for this program.  The system sometimes does not transfer previous qualifications automatically so it may be that I will have to go into the system and manually force this award.  I would like to have all this finalised by the end of January, so apologies if this was not sent as part of your Christmas presents!!!.  Plus there are still some people who need to send me some finalised feedback sheets to ensure that we meet our suditing requirements under AQTF

Finally I have also added the link here to the Virtual graduation for those who may want to view this or were unable to attend.

Plus ..... Here is the graduation poem that I developed for this event that might be of interest to some of you.

Class of 2009 Diploma of e-learning – graduation poem

In this Diploma of e-learning I am the facilitator and assessor these are the facts

However to my family and work colleagues I wear multiple hats!

However it's to this first role that I ‘ll refer to in this poem of sorts

To share with you my dear graduates my learning’s and thoughts

As you probably all know this e-learning program is no longer to be taught

Which I think is a shame as it’s capacity to connect and learning has brought.

Students online from all over Australia from each territory and State

With a combined graduating number of students of 48

When you started in this E-Learning study program, you started with a goal

Be it personal development, professional competence and it has taken a toll!

For 18 months you’ve had no weekends, late nights and used early mornings to study.

You’ve been a mentor, a virtual team member a facilitator and even a buddy

You’ve had group projects in virtual teams where you’ve worked with each other

There’ve been activities and assessments and you’ve mentored another

So it’s timely to reflect and now think about all that you’ve learned

And most importantly to celebrate on this Diploma of e-learning that you now have all earned.

In this e-learning program and online there’s been nowhere to hide

Because we’ve ensured that you were visible and no matter how hard you tried

You’ve been connected through janison you’re on msn, elluminate and skype

And you’ve improved your online communication and some of you your ability to type

You can use dream-weaver and fireworks and google docs and blog

Yet we all know that over time it has been a bit of a slog!

There’s been experimentation in web 2.0 and other communication tools

And I am sure that at times when they haven’t worked we have felt a bit like fools

Why does no-one else know about these tools and seem to understand this new world and learning speak

Web 2.0 e-learning 2.0, wikis our colleagues and managers, do they now think we are a geek!

I know there’ve been typos and posts where the frustration and learning is there

But I think that as a community we have demonstrated an ability to care

When others have been stuck in the learning rut or just over it at the time

You’ve supported you’ve prodded and got them over the learning hump helping them to redefine

Why am I doing this again?

Oh yeah its for my future and I’m trying to attain?

That Diploma of e-learning and with this program I will remain

So you’ve all stayed with the program and gave us all food for thought

You’ve been learners and teachers and through all of this you have taught

That it matters not whether we are on line or in rooms or on the computer at night

The learning is social and the future of education in blended learning is right

So now be proud, stand tall and be an advocate of learning online

And display those skills to your colleagues and learners and show them it is time

You’re not a geek a computer nerd or someone who lives on the computer

You are an educator/ trainer who is open to technological possibilities which makes you a 21st century learning tutor.

Your approach is about designing learning that can be online, blended, experimental and fun

And about creating learning cultures that reflect and develop and share on the run

So use all of your new experience and skills in e-learning online

To collaborate, reflect and focus on the learner in all that you design

Don’t forget that that the learning is all about learners and encouraging them to believe

That there’s lots of way to learn and attain the competencies they want to achieve

Stay energetic and motivated in all things technological it isn’t s sin

Keep networked and connected and don’t flick new things to that recycle bin!

Use linked in and your de.licious or whatever the future unfurls

And remember that this learning world is your oyster and you are all the pearls!

You have been part of my learning world and I will miss the interaction we have had

But I know that you will be great advocates and continuous learners which makes me glad

So best wishes and congratulations on your work and support

And most importantly for sharing with me and your fellow learners in this Diploma of E-Learning graduating cohort.

     Cheers for now

  • 2010 - Life after the Diploma of e-learning - what next?

The Diploma of e-learning is now defunct, because of what I consider some sort sightedness on the part of the Business services Training package review committee, in 2006.  A short history reveals that the standard questions asked when reviewing national qualifications revolve around the number of students achieving qualifications and thereby its value in the national training context.  In 2006 there were 2 providers nationally who conducted this Diploma of e-learning program.  Tropical North Queensland TAFE and one other.  In the review process the the number of graduates emanating from this program was not seen as a viable number to sustain this qualification in the Business services training package and it was therefore removed as a national qualification.  This meant that when I took over delivery of this program in 2006, there would be a three - four year limit on its delivery which is now complete.

I would like to say that it has been one of the most professionally rewarding programs that I have ever been involved in, from a learning and networking perspective.  The quality of student and their outputs has been continuously improving and I am extremely proud of those who have successfully completed and those that have joined with me on this learning journey over the last three years.  As I said to them at the recent Virtual graduation, it has been my pleasure to learn with them and from them and I will miss this connection and interaction.

    cartoon_future

So........ life goes on for us all and I am looking forward to some new challenges and opportunities that might be out there for myself and my organisation.  I enjoy working with TAFE and being given the option to explore ideas and funding for enhanced learning, even with all its requisite compliance and bureacracy, but am always open to new options.  So in light of this I have a request for all those who read this blog, I am about to set up a past Diploma of e-learning network group on linked in so that we can remain connected and share our continuing learning journey.  If you are interested in being part of this group and connecting with past students and seeing what they are up to and how they are using their qualification, a quick email to me with a current email address is all that is required.   I think we still have much to share and contribute to our professional learning in the future, so take the time to join linked in and when you have perhaps you would like to link with me and provide a recommendation for me.

May you all have a fantastic year personally and professionally and stay in touch.

Best wishes to you all in 2010
